Salim first took up photography in 2001 as part of his GCSE Art class because he he thought couldn't draw well enough to pass the class. His first photography project, titled "Heads and Hands" was not only good enough to pass the class but also saw him nominated for an inter-schools photography competition which was good enough for the top-5. Since then, he has been an avid photographer, travelling to different places across the world with camera in-hand with a passion for telling stories from the Global South in particular.

He has currently works as a development consultant with the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics based in Nairobi, Kenya.
